FRANK SKINNER MEETS JUDGE DREDD
Award-winning comedian and presenter Frank Skinner has been immortalised in the world of Judge Dredd after one of the artists behind the cult comic character decided to pay tribute to his favourite Absolute Radio host.
Ben Willsher is known to comic fans around the world as one of principal artists responsible for the on-going Judge Dredd series from the 2000AD comic books. What they probably don’t know is that Ben often listens to the Frank Skinner Show on Absolute Radio as he draws his comic creations.
“I love listening to Frank’s show, as it’s like having work colleagues chatting away while I draw. It’s great fun, but can be hazardous at times, I sometimes laugh so much that I’ve nearly get tears on the page I’ve just inked. When listening to the show it genuinely feels like you’re in a group of friends, despite the fact that I’ve ever met any of them.”
Ben decided he would pay tribute to Frank and his co-presenters Emily Dean and Alun ‘The Cockeral’ Cochrane by naming tower blocks after each of them in an edition of the comic published in August.
Ben says it was an honour to include his favourite Absolute Radio presenters in the Dredd Universe “I love the show, so as a little nod to the team I included them into the world of Judge Dredd’s Mega-City One. This means the team are officially canon in the Dredd universe. So thanks guys, look forward to listening to the next one.”
Frank Skinner was delighted to have been sent a copy of Ben’s creation, saying “I absolutely love the fact Ben draws his creations whilst listening to my Saturday morning show, in fact I’m thinking of having him installed as my artist in residence to capture my every move for posterity”
Judge Dredd can also currently be seen in the new action movie ‘DREDD- 3D’ starring Karl Urban (McCoy in Star Trek) as the eponymous hero.
