‘BOSS MONSTER’ BRINGS RETRO-STYLE GAMING TO THE TABLETOP
8-bit inspired card game launches Kickstarter campaign today
Inspired by a love of classic videogames and modern tabletop games, BOSS MONSTER is a new card game launching today on Kickstarter. BOSS MONSTER challenges players to become the apex predators of gaming — videogame-style “bosses” — and build side-scrolling dungeons to lure and destroy puny adventurers.
In BOSS MONSTER, players are the bad guys and “heroes” are resources to be gathered and consumed. Each player must compete with other bosses in the race to build the most lethal side-scrolling dungeon using a series of cleverly arranged minions, traps, and spells. As other players scheme to weaken your defenses, your rising infamy draws more experienced heroes eager to slay you in the name of fame and glory. Will you endure the heroic onslaught? Can your rivals outwit you? Are you a bad enough dude to become the ultimate Boss Monster?
Illustrated by talented pixel artists like Katrina Guillermo (Super Apartment Bros.) and Kyle Merritt (EvoCreo), BOSS MONSTER is packed with nostalgia and pop culture references. Leading up to the Kickstarter campaign, BOSS MONSTER has generated excitement during sneak peeks at the IndieCade Festival of Independent Games and LA-area game store demonstrations. Players have been thrilled with the nostalgic theme, great art, and unique dungeon-building gameplay.
BOSS MONSTER is fun and accessible, but packs enough strategy to challenge hobbyist gamers. It mixes the strategy of Magic: The Gathering with the standalone play value of Munchkin, the resource management of Settlers of Catan, and the nostalgic fun of a classic RPG dungeon crawl. Though BOSS MONSTER is fully playtested, illustrated and ready for mass production, Brotherwise Games needs to achieve a $12,000 funding goal to print a premium-quality game and bring it to market.
The Kickstarter campaign starts with a pre-order pledge level of $20 for the complete game kit, containing everything necessary for 2-4 players to play the game (and free shipping included in the U.S.). Higher pledge levels include the chance to insert your name or likeness into the published game, limited edition Mini 10-Doh figures by Squid Kids Ink, and even the chance to design your own card. Check out the Boss Monster campaign at www.Kickstarter.com and you can be the first to master the dungeon!
