ComixTribe Partners With Maximum Comics to Promote SCAM and Comics in a BIG Way

August 14, 2012 — Newburyport, MA — A 48-foot billboard promoting the world-wide launch of Joe Mulvey’s SCAM went up near the Vegas strip Tuesday morning, ComixTribe publisher Tyler James announced today. A cooperative promotion done in conjunction with Vegas retailer Jay Bosworth of Maximum Comics, the promotion’s intention is to raise awareness for the new superpowered con-men series releasing this month, and for comics in general.
“A billboard promoting a new creator-owned comic? On the Las Vegas Strip?? Insane! Amazing!” said Bosworth.  ”This is exactly the out-of-the-box and in your face type of marketing and promoting ComixTribe is all about. We are glad to be working with such a modern, aggressive publisher that views the comic horizon the same way we do– full of opportunity for those willing to take risks and do things a little differently.”The billboard, located on Tropicana and the Vegas strip, will run for five-weeks.”Comics are the most creative and progressive form of entertainment there is,” said SCAM creator Joe Mulvey. “It’s time more people knew that.  The comics industry as a whole needs to do a better job of beating its own chest.  Every other product promotes itself to the world.  Hell, paper towels have commercials and mustard has billboards!  Why not comics?”SCAM Billboard Photo2 225x300 48 Foot Billboard on the Vegas Strip Heralds World Wide Debut of Joe Mulveys Scam

SCAM #1 marks the Diamond Comics debut for ComixTribe, and is the debut series for Mulvey. Two sold-out micro-distributed print runs of SCAM #1 took place in January and February of this year, leading to a distribution deal with the world-wide distributor. The first printing of SCAM #1 was limited to just 777 copies and sold out almost instantly. The new first Diamond printing features a cover with art by Mulvey, colored by Chris Sotomayor (Marvel Comics.)

“Kudos to Joe Mulvey and ComixTribe,” said retailer Larry Doherty, whose New England Comics Retailer’s Alliance was instrumental in getting SCAM off the ground earlier this year.  ”Now, where are Marvel and DC’s billboards promoting comics?”

SCAM is an “X-Men meets Oceans 11″ style story, and involves a team of super-powered grifters on the biggest con of their lives…taking down a Vegas casino and getting revenge on a former teammate who double-crossed them. SCAM #1 is the double-sized first installment of a five-issue mini-series, and will be on sale at comic shops world-wide the last week in August.

SCAM #2 (AUG120968) is currently being solicited in this month’s PREVIEWS catalog.
