This week’s pick is all about great Batman stories. Batman and Robin by Tomasi and Gleason has been underrated – it’s a solid comic that tells a great story and advances the characters of Batman and Robin.
Pete Tomasi has managed to put Batman and Robin both in danger throughout the previous 7 issues. Now we’re seeing the fallout of a big plot point from the previous issue – How Batman will handle Damien’s actions as a murderer? While I’m not normally a fan of Pat Gleason, he does a superb job of storytelling with thick lines and clear panel layout.
This series isn’t doing anything crazy, just telling a good Batman story. It’s too often that creators on Batman try to top the other writers that have come before them. The best stories are their own Batman stories, and this is quickly becoming one of the best runs on a Bruce Wayne Batman title in a long time.
