Here at POTW we make the tough decision of what to buy if you only had money for ONE book coming out that week… this is easily the best comic coming out any given Wednesday. Even though we’ve not read it yet, we’re assured of its greatness! …and we may be a day late for this one but NEVER a dollar short on our comics.
David Hine has the penchant for making good, but horrifying, books. Look no further than Bulletproof Coffin: Disinterred #2 and Strange Embrace for truth. This week marks another book where he can scare the crap out of us every month with The Darkness #101.
He is accompanied by artist Jeremy Haun. They previously collaborated on the Arkham Asylum trilogy of stories to deliver a great psychological Batman story. Haun has been fairly solid and I’ve been wanting to see him have a place to regularly stretch his artistic wings for a while. His style is enough in the Top Cow house style to not alienate old Darkness readers but different enough to really make the character his own.
Jackie Estacado’s story in this issue begins fresh as, from what I’ve heard, the character just recently reset the world in his image. Picking this up is a no brainier to me simply because it’s David Hine doing what he does best, and Jeremy Haun delivering slick art. It also never hurts to be introduced to a new character with a new Jackie and a newly remodeled Top Cow Universe. DO IT!
