It’s very rare to find a book nowadays that doesn’t write for the future collected edition. Most comic stories can be long and drawn out, and make the reader dig through the padding to find the good story. Thankfully, since 2006, there has been Jonah Hex. For the most part, Jonah Hex has had single issue stories for the past 69 issues. One of the things this allows the writers to do is to swap out artists all the time. Jonah Hex has had big names like Tony DeZuniga, Darwyn Cooke, and Eduardo Risso come on to do issues. These stories won’t change your life, but they’re a breath of fresh air in a world of fast paced spandex.
Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray have written every issue thus far, and have really developed a solid take on the character of Jonah Hex. He’s a bounty hunter in the old west that only wants his money. Artist Jeff Lemire (Sweet Tooth, Essex County Trilogy) comes aboard to illustrate issue 69. I think this will be an interesting combination since Lemire is mostly known for illustrating worlds he creates and writes in. Palmiotti and Gray have been consistently solid, so I look forward to seeing what this hodgepodge of creators will bring to the table.
