Skullkickers #4 Review

The last issue of Skullkickers of the year aims to cap off their very impressive start in truly kick ass fashion.

The fourth issue continues directly after the cliff-hanger of the third issue. The dwarf was about to be turned into an undead minion of an evil necromancer. Needless to say the dwarf’s hulking friend manages to interrupt this by blasting all things undead. Only snag is bullets don’t really seem to the best thing to stop zombie monsters.

Of course this just leads to Shorty and Baldy trying some more violent methods to curb the undead hordes, unfortunately for the necromancer this involves his face and lots of hitting. They manage to beat the dire situation for a few moments but in true Skullkickers fashion, things go from bad to worse.
The creative team behind Skullkickers just don’t seem to be playing ball. Here I am happily waiting for this comic to show me that the impressive debut (and next few issues) were just a fluke in that they were great reads. Then issue four puts me in my begrudging place by probably being the strongest issue of this sickingly good run.

Some of the monsters are really quite cool and the action quite literally breakneck. Seeing as the first two issues are more than likely at collector prices I’d recommend picking up the inevitable trade as the plot is starting to ramp up quite nicely and the read will be that much more enjoyable. If you were one of the lucky people to have bought the series from the beginning then you have to read this issue and hopefully you’ll agree that at this rate Skullkickers will get even more popular and for a nice change deservedly so.
